Progress on the Non-Scene

It’s coming along nicely.
Granted, it’s weighing in at over 2,800 words — all of which cannot be in the book. It’s amusing mostly, only a little annoying. But I’m not really surprised. I’m writing from the point of view of the “villain”, not that he sees himself as that, and it’s in [...]

More Tea Please. Critting.

I am going to be petulant this morning because I feel it is unfair to start my two days off feeling ill. Yes, whining, I know, but I had plans and now it’s 10:30 am and I am still in a housecoat, bladder strained from the pot of tea I’ve inhaled already, and with [...]

That One Thing

Finally! After working on the manuscript build, typing in all those notes and starting to plan out the new, unwritten sections, I found something I’ve misplaced for months now. And I can’t even describe it. Sitting here, trying to think of the right metaphor and finding everything that my mind offers up [...]

Is Coffee Supposed to be Loud?

The coffee shop ended up being a terrible idea. I managed to get a couple of pages typed in before a crowd of patrons raised the noise level to un-ignorable heights. In the end, I packed up my bag, drove home and treated the dog to an early walk since weather reports hinted [...]

All The Space I Need

Virtually, anyways.
Today was rather productive, with no small thanks to Things, I think. Having the list is really helping, and so is having it on both the computer and the iPhone. I’m even adding things like mini-reminders, things like “bring the magazine to the Hypergraphics meeting” stuff. And now I’ve configured Hyperspaces [...]

Stray Wagon Wheels

I’ve spent the morning, like I do every first day of my days off, catching up. The boring stuff, too – tidying up the kitchen, rescuing the dog from her perpetual daytime boredom, gathering my tax information for later, clipping through my RSS feeds and reading a couple of days worth of web comics, [...]

Time to Lie Down

Dear god. My eyeballs are sticking (my monthly cue to switch out my contacts for a new pair of disposables), I’m googly and I haven’t touched the computer since the Hypergraphics meeting this past Friday.
On Friday I was still toughing it through a head cold, and I had to work hard on staying awake, [...]

January 2009 – What Worked, What Didn’t

I’m a few days late on this but, as seems to be increasingly typical, I am not getting to my computer at night after work.  More on that later ’cause I expect that I will be slightly spammier with my blog posts over the next few days. Anyway, here’s my review of my progress so far:
What [...]

Word Count

All told, 1,110 words.  That was built on the 300 or so I wrote at work on Tuesday.
I took it slow today, plunking the keys here and there, between the obsessive checking of political websites and social sites, and cooking dinner.    Not bad, but far short of NaNoWriMo levels of production.
What gets [...]

Look What We Have Here!

Between yesterday and today, I’ve entered all the free-writing for Spirit Cat that I’ve done at work, and I’m sitting pretty at somewhere around 2,500 words. I’ve even found a natural chapter break, so technically I’m on chapter two.
(And when I did, I was all, “Chapter Two? What’s going on here?”)
Next up for today, reviewing [...]
